To select the appropriate mold for making your candle you will need to know how each mold works. Each mold will create a different finishing touch to your silicone candle.

Some molds provide shiny finishes while other molds create a more matted finish. Making primitive grubby candles is made so much easier with a grubby mold.

A mold made of plastic, glass or metal are referred to as rigid molds. Rigid molds are known for their high-gloss finish. A high-gloss finish will give your candles a professional appearance.

The least expensive of the rigid molds are the plastic molds and they are recommended for beginner candle makers. Glass molds are known for their cooling rate, not too fast and not too slow. Metal molds have a long life span because they are sturdy and they also have a quick cooling rate. If you choose to use any of the rigid molds you are limiting yourself to cylindrically shaped candles.

Candle Making Molds - Features & Types:

If you are looking for a mold that will give your candle more detailed appearance, you will need to look into flexible molds. Flexible molds are made of rubber or PVC and allow you to make candles with more elaborate designs. When using flexible molds you will need to constantly monitor the candles during the cooling process. This is because when using flexible molds the candle may distort during this period.

When deciding PVC verses rubber, remember that PVC molds are best for irregular shapes like animals, flowers or even foods. They also give a more marked finish. PVC molds are easily removed from the candle without damaging the candle's surface.

If you are looking for that matte finish, try a rubber mold. The problem with rubber molds is that they deteriorate with time. Repeated use of rubber molds is not possible. Their life span is not as long as another type of mold.

As mentioned previously, plastic molds are ideal for the beginner. This is because the plastic is reusable so you can practice repeatedly in one mold. You know practice makes perfect. It definitely takes practice for your candle to reach perfection.

Keep in mind that candle making molds are easily found on the web. The internet is the best source for affordable discount and wholesale candle making supplies.
