Embroidery Designs - Embroidery Pattern Software

Is creative machine embroidery as easy as choosing a design, plugging the design card into your embroidery machine, hooping your fabric, and pushing a button? Yes and no. If you want to make beautiful finished pieces with soft, supple embroidery, there is more that you should know.

You can put a machine embroidery design on just about any fabric, including luxurious silk and soft wool.

But, if your goal is to produce embroidery that doesn't pucker, or change the drape of the fabric, you need the following:

- a well tuned machine that is set to the appropriate needle and bobbin tensions

- a well prepared and positioned design

- the right needle and thread for the job

- properly hooped and stabilized fabric

Embroidery Design

What makes a good embroidery design?

A good machine embroidery design needs to be more than good looking. It should also have a solid framework of stitches forming its outer edge, fill and satin stitches, and underlay stitches if necessary. The sewing sequence of the design should be well thought out, with few jump stitches from one area to another. This will minimize thread trimming. And your design should be paired with a suitable fabric that can structurally support the design.

If using your own machine embroidery designs, you can take into consideration the fabric they will be sewn on as you design them. However, when you're working with stock designs from a local store, the Internet, or the designs that came with your machine, it is up to you to match the fabric with the design. Designs that work well on a baseball cap may not work as well on a bath robe or t shirt.

What about stock designs?

Stock designs are available from your machine manufacturer or from independent design companies. You can also find a large selection on the Internet, and many designs are free. Designs purchased from professional design companies are created by experienced designers and usually will yield excellent results. This is not always the case with the free designs you get on the Internet. So choose your designs wisely.

If you see that your design is not turning out as well as you had envisioned once you start applying it, don't worry, you still have options. You could edit the design, if your software and your ability permit. If you can't do it yourself, you can also contact the company that designed it and have it edited (for a fee).

Y ou can ensure professional results and have fun at your embroidery machine with careful use of quality embroidery machine designs and good fabric choices.
