What To Look For In A Dog Car Seat Cover

Need a dog car seat cover? If you enjoy taking "man's best friend" with you when you run errands or go on vacation, the answer is yes. A dog car seat cover will protect your seats whether you are running to the store, taking your dog to the vet, or going on a long road trip. Not only will a dog car seat cover keep slobber, hair and dirt off your seats, but it will also protect them from sharp nails.

Dog car seat covers are different from your standard car seat covers and truck seat covers. The two major differences are that dog car seat covers do not cover the entire seat. Most just lay across the top protecting the area your dog would stand or lay on. The other is that regular car seat covers are to improve the look of your car's interior, while dog car seat covers are designed for protection. They are made of a material whose job is to be durable, waterproof and machine washable.

Fit – A proper fit is important if you want your dog car seat cover to stay in place under an active dog. Be sure to measure the seat width, from door to door. Also keep in mind that the style of seat will need to be considered. For instance a bucket seat will require a different cover than a bench seat.

Durability – Any seat cover your dog will be jumping around on needs to be tough. The material should be thick enough to keep sharp claws from tearing through and reaching your seats.

Washable – Dog car seat covers get dirty – really dirty! You will need to wash them frequently and you will need a material that can be popped in the washer and dryer and look great time after time.

Water resistant – This might not be an important factor to all of you. It is more important to those who take their dog to the beach or hunting with them. In either of those examples, chances are your dog will jump in the car wet and dirty.

Style – This may sound like an odd quality to look for in a dog car seat cover. But, if your pet is a frequent passenger, you want a car seat cover that looks good enough to leave on when you need to. You don't want to be taking it on and off more than is necessary just because it looks bad.
