Larger than the typical square receiving blanket, and sewn with easy-to-tuck inner and outer flaps, the Amazing Miracle Blanket is intended to allow newborns up to four months to remain securely bundled as they learn to sleep for longer and longer periods.
History
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but it was a father of three who invented the Miracle Blanket . After enduring four sleepless months with his firstborn's protracted bout of colic, and facing a repeat episode with his third, Michael Gatten dashed out to a fabric store, bought a couple of yards cotton flannel, and got to work creating the prototype of what would become the Amazing Miracle Blanket.
Friends and child experts had always urged Gatten and his wife to swaddle their colicky infant, but they found that the traditional square shape of the receiving blanket would not keep their baby securely wrapped through the night. Gatten designed his Miracle Blanket in an asymmetrical shape with sewn-in inner flaps to tuck around baby's arms, and large outer flaps that, through a series of simple folds and tucks, would effectively secure a restless newborn.
Wean baby off the Miracle Blanket at four months of age - he needs his arms and hands free to suck and explore. Gatten suggests putting baby to bed without the blanket, but wrapping him in it if he wakes up more than once during the night. As the nights progress, baby should be able to sleep for a longer period without waking and after several days should be able to sleep through the entire night. Now that's a miracle!
