California King Comforters - Cal King sizing

Before investing in a California king comforter or even a small twin comforter, determine first what size mattress you have. Once that is established, you can choose items that will fit you bed properly.

Decorative comforters and down comforters/duvets and duvet covers are produced in Twin, Full, Full/Queen and King Sizes. California king size comforters and twin extra long covers are not specifically manufactured, so just use a Twin or King size as needed. Regarding full and queen sizes: some comforters are produced to fit just a Full-size mattress, others as a Full/Queen that will fit either size bed.

Standard mattress sizes: (width x length)

Twin/Single - A single person mattress, measures 39 x 75 inches
Twin XL – An extra long twin, this mattress is commonly found in college dorms and measures 39 x 80 inches (5 inches longer than a standard twin)
Full/Double – Can sleep two, measures 54 x 75 inches
Queen – Sleeps two, measures 60 x 80 inches
King/Eastern King – Measures between 76-78 x 80 inches.
California King – Longer and narrower than an Eastern King, measures 72 x 84 inches

Mattress depths: Extra-deep and pillow-top mattresses are becoming common - find out the depth of your mattress before purchasing a twin comforter or king duvet cover, as that will affect how far your cover hangs down on each side of the bed. Some typical mattress depth dimensions are:

Standard –7 to 9 inches deep
Deep - 10 to 15 inches deep
Extra Deep – Above 15 inches to 22 inches and more

Decorative Comforter sizes (approximate): (width x length) Below are approximate sizes of standard decorative comforters (not requiring a duvet cover) and may run a few inches bigger or smaller in length and width depending on manufacturer. Some manufacturers also make "oversized" comforters to accommodate larger beds and the extra-extra-deep mattresses.

Twin – 68 x 86 inches
Full - 80 x 90 inches
Full/Queen - 88 x 88 inches
Queen – 86 x 94 inches
King - 110 x 96 inches

Down comforter/duvet and duvet cover sizes (approximate): (width x length) Below are approximate dimensions for king duvets/comforters through twin duvets and duvet covers. Remember that some manufacturers run larger, others smaller, so best keep a tape measure handy if the length and width measurements aren't provided.

Twin comforter / duvet cover - ranges from 66 inches wide to 88 inches long

Full/Queen comforter / duvet cover - ranges from 88 inches wide to 98 inches long

King/Cal King comforter / duvet cover - ranges from 104 inches wide x 98 inches long
