Often overlooked, bowling towels play a key role in a bowler's performance. Yes, most bowlers have their favorite bowling towel, but they may not be using it to its best advantage. They will most likely leave it on a chair, a scorer, or a ball return while they bowl. They continually pick it up, wipe their ball, and throw it down again. For this reason, bowling towels are usually a mess and covered with oil.
A dirty, oily bowling towel won't do you much good. When the bowler picks up this towel, some of the dirt and oil will get on their hands and affect the way the ball is delivered. But there is a better way. Go ahead and fold your bowling towel in half, then in half again, then one more time. Use only one side for the ball and the other side for your hands.
Pick up your ball with your non-bowling hand and wipe it with the towel in your other hand. Be sure to pick up the towel on the clean side so as not to get oil on your hands. This will keep you oil free. Once your oil side is all black, simply refold the towel giving the ball a new clean spot. You will get eight divisions on one side and eight on the other. Follow this easy process and your towel will last 16 times longer without you having to launder it.
Bowling towels, like golf towels , are sold for a specialized use. Novelty bowling towels in the stores usually come with a grommet for hanging and perhaps a decorative bowling graphic. But you don't need to spend big bucks for a novelty towel. Any towel the size of a hand towel can be used as a bowling towel. If you can get away with it, you can even nab one from the kitchen!
Keep your bowling ball and your hands clean by following these simple steps. If you do, you will no doubt notice greater accuracy in your game. Plus you won't miss any fun activities because you had to stay home and wash your bowling towel!
