Most of us don't have the luxury of a spare room that we can dedicate to a home office. That is why the computer armoire has become a staple in most homes. A handsome computer armoire does double duty as a fine piece of furniture and an all-in-one home office.
When closed, your computer armoire looks like a fine wood wardrobe cabinet, in rich wood tones or white or black shellac finish, complete with stylish hardware. But open it up and there is more than meets the eye. Inside you will find sliding shelves for your computer, keyboard and printer plus large drawers that serve as filing cabinets.
Many quality manufacturers offer fine furniture computer armoires. Other manufacturers, like Sauder , produce a nice looking, utilitarian piece of furniture at affordable (you may even say cheap) prices.
If you have an armoire that you plan to convert into a computer armoire:
There are a few things you need to keep in mind. First, make sure it's at least 18 inches deep. This ensures that it is deep enough to hold a computer and monitor. This is not a concern if you have a flat screen monitor that takes up far less space. It is also a good idea to add notches or grommets to the shelves so you can feed the wires through them. Without them, you will not be able to plug in all of your equipment and close the armoire door.Whether you buy your computer armoire or make your own, you can be sure that it will be the most used piece of furniture in your home.
