When it comes to first aid cabinets, the brand is not the most important thing.

What is important is that it has the first aid products you would need for a general emergency, and that those products are of the highest quality. Shopping for first aid cabinets can be confusing. But if you follow these simple tips it will be fast and easy.

How to shop for first aid cabinets:

Variety - The variety of components in a first aid cabinet are far more important than quantity. You can always restock after an emergency. However, a kit comprised of a box of adhesive bandages and a few tablets won't treat many different types of injuries. A properly stocked first aid kit will have enough different types of first aid products to aid you in most real life emergencies. A well stocked first aid cabinet may cost a few dollars more, but it is worth it.

Basics - Make sure all basic supply categories are covered in a first aid cabinet. It should include at the very least: Antiseptics (to kill germs and prevent infection), Injury treatment (supplies like butterfly closures and cold compresses to deal with injuries), Bandages (a variety of bandage sizes to dress different sized wounds), Instruments (like barrier gloves and tweezers), and Medicines (at the very minimum it should include analgesics).

Organization – Emergencies are all about time. You don't have much of it! A first aid cabinet will not do you any good if you can't find what you need fast. A good cabinet should have its contents organized so you can locate and grab supplies easily and quickly.

Quality – Supplies that don't work properly, or don't work at all, are the last thing you need during an emergency. B andages that won't stick, bandages that are not the right size, medication that is expired or poorly packaged have no place in a first aid cabinet.

Information – The best stocked first aid cabinet will do you no good if you don't know what to do with it. Most first aid cabinets include some kind of guide, but their usefulness can vary. Make sure the guide is from a credible source, contains up-to-date medical advice, and is understandable (even in times of great stress).

Lastly make sure that your first aid cabinet is in clear site and easy to get to. A wall cabinet works well for these purposes.
