Getting Your Glove Size Right
The 'downside' of poorly fitting sport or work gloves is that you'll miss the protection you're looking for, your performance drops off, and then you'll pay-out more money for replacement gloves until you get the sizing issues sorted out.
Break the performance and cost cycle by knowing the basics of glove sizing. You'll increase your product satisfaction plus you'll dramatically lower your replacement costs. To get glove sizing right consider the following guideline:-
Hand Width And Circumference. If you're needing driving gloves which you'll use all day every day, then great fit is a must. Take a string or a tape measure, placing it just below your knuckles. Now wrap it around your hand. Record the length, such as 7-inches, 9-inches, 11 inches and so on. This is perhaps 80% of the inputs that determine whether you need XS or XXL.
Finger Length. Once the basic glove size is determined, you now need to focus on obtaining the best 'fit', which means getting, say, a mechanics glove with finger lengths equal to or slightly longer than your own fingers. Why? The answer is simple: a short-fingered glove will not permit you to fully articulate your fingers, restricting movement. You'll lose gripping power, tactile sensitivity, plus your hand muscles will tire as they compete with the fabric restrictions.
What's Your True Size? If your hand measurement is less than 7-inches, then you'll be looking for Extra Small nitrile gloves for lab work. Meanwhile, if you're looking for welding or police gloves and your hand circumference is over 12-inches, then you'll need XXXL size work gloves. In the middle of most glove manufacturers sizing range is Large at around 9 ½ inches.
Optimizing Your Fit. If you're near the top of any glove size bracket and you want a loose comfortable fit, then select product from one size up.
