Anorak – An Oakley Anorak Jacket
The traditional anorak is a hooded jacket or parka with a half-zipper, worn as a pullover. The smaller the zipper, the more weatherproof the jacket, and with less metal on the jacket, it is a lighter weight one as well.

Anorak jackets are usually hip-length and by virtue of the cut, don't vent as easily as other styles. Zipperless styles are also available, with head openings adjustable with a drawstring or snaps. Extra-large hand warmer pockets, or a front kangaroo-style pocket are also useful features on an anorak.
With its Arctic origins, it's no wonder the anorak is a proven defense against the elements. Originally worn by Inuit Eskimos, anorak jackets were later adapted by the U.S. government for use in World War II.
Soon after the war, like many other military styles, it became popular with the public, and has been an enduring style of outerwear ever since. Your anorak may offer additional protection from the weather with elastic cuffs, adjustable draw cords for the hood and a zipper that goes all the way up to the neck or chin.
Another plus – you can find anorak jackets with a hood option. Opt for a built-in hood, which guarantees a moisture-free neck and back, or a detachable hood that snaps, zips or attaches with Velcro. Some jackets also feature an attached hood that rolls out of sight into a zippered pouch around the neck, creating a quasi collar and giving you the best of both options.
Winter-weight anoraks for cold weather and snow sports are available in standard pullover styles, constructed in warm layers for venting and wicking moisture; or in a standard full-zip, front opening/closing design, resembling a typical parka. A popular snowboarding jacket made by Oakley reflects this style, which also features a fur-lined hood for added warmth.
Lightweight anorak jackets are easy protection from the rain and wind. The encompassing hooded style covers the head, torso and arms and its loose design is easy to wear over even bulky clothes. Nylon, Gore-Tex and other synthetic fabrics are used in the construction, but often you can find springtime-weight jackets in cotton and cotton blends. For cooler climates, try an anorak with fleece or flannel lining. This type of outerwear is ideal when you're not sure what the weather holds in store as it can easily be taken off and tied around your waist, or rolled up in your back pack.
Find an anorak for your sport at any online or local retail sporting goods store that carries outdoor apparel. Fashion anoraks are usually part of a spring collection, so expect to find them in seasonal catalogs or featured in spring fashions while shopping on the internet. Eddie Bauer Inc. and L.L. Bean are among the casual fashion retailers who include anoraks in their seasonal collections.
