Gore-Tex is considered my many to be an excellent waterproof shell for the outer layer of a quality down parka. Some brands have their own waterproofing lamination trademark names - for example, Columbia jackets use "Omnitech," and Marmet uses ""Membrane." Technically advanced or high-tech outerwear usually includes a parka that is windproof, waterproof, breathable - these features guarantee high performance.
High fill-power goose down (above 600) is used in most high–tech, high performance (and usually more expensive) parkas. A high fill power indicates that the coat will be lightweight and very warm.
Jackets that contain only 300 or 400 fill must have more down to get to a good loft, resulting in a heavier weight and causing them to be cumbersome. Construction in top quality parka is often baffled to avoid shifting - down-filled draft tubes deny escape to precious heat. Another serious consideration concerning weight is packing your parka for travel. The lighter the fill, the easier your parka will be to pack and carry.
Canada Goose brand jackets make several styles of down-filled parkas. As their name suggests, they use goose down, the preferred fill for apparel.
Some vacationing families with younger children choose to wear down parkas of the same design and color for safety and easy recognition. If a father is separated from his son he need only tell the ski patrol that his child is wearing exactly what he has on. This can save searchers a lot of time.
Whatever your reason a goose down parka will warm up the atmosphere and put a smile on your face.
