Cotton robes are soft and durable, offer excellent breathability and are highly absorbent. That is also why cotton is the material of choice for all sorts of apparel, especially the beloved cotton underwear. However, not all cotton is created equal. The geographic area where the cotton is grown and how it's processed makes quite a big difference in the way different cotton robes feel and wear.
California grows s ome of the best cotton in the world. A finer strand that enhances the cotton's natural properties is a result of the stat's climate. Not surprisingly, some of the highest quality cotton bath robes are made with California cotton.
All cotton produced is either combed or carded to align the fibers . The combing method makes the fiber smoother and stronger. Combed cotton is also softer and more pliable. So look for bath robes made with combed cotton.
One of the most popular cotton robes are those made from Turkish terry cloth. The soft, fluffy and absorbent loops make this material perfect for men's and women's cotton robes. The terry cloth is warm and soft while is wicks water from your body.
The down side to 100% cotton bath robes is that they will shrink if laundered in hot water and/or dried in a hot dryer. So, to avoid shrinkage, wash in cool or warm water and air dry. However, if you are a busy person who does lots of laundry for your family, then you don't have time to "pamper" any particular piece of clothing. In that case, buy your cotton robe a size larger to allow for shrinkage and go ahead and wash and dry as you wish.
