Sumptuous bath robes for men and women are made from so many fine fabrics such as terry cloth, flannel, satin and chenille. What makes silk bath robes so special? When compared to other fabrics, silk is considered the most comfortable, the most absorbent (equal to wool) , it drapes the best and holds color like no other.
Silk also has the greatest luster , is soil, moth and mildew resistant, and is the strongest natural fabric. As if that weren't enough, Silk is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Some think it is the finest fabric known to man.
When shopping for silk bath robes, be sure to keep in mind that irregularities and variations in the weave are characteristic of the fabric and are not defects. Silk is made from the natural strands of silk created by silk worms and its irregularities are part of its beauty.
Caring for silk bath robes
Your silk bath robe will maintain its original characteristics best if it is dry cleaned either individually or using a bulk method. However, in many cases it can also be washed with care. Read the care instruction on the label of the robe. The major exceptions are: taffeta, brocade, velvet, metallic, some chiffons, charmeuses , satins and crepes. These silks should always be dry cleaned.
If you will be dry cleaning your silk bath robe, always tell the dry cleaner that your garment is made from silk. This will queue the dry cleaner not to place in a vat with jeans or other garments that could harm silk.
If you will be washing your silk bath robe by hand, be sure to always use cool water. Use a mild detergent such as Ivory soap or Woolite . A very small amount of soap is needed since silk naturally resists soiling. Rinse your robe thoroughly in cold water. Hang or lay the robe flat to dry in the shade. Sunlight will fade bright colors . If you find that pressing is needed, press the wrong side of the fabric with a cool iron.
If you will be washing your silk in the washing machine use cool water and set your machine on its most delicate cycle. Only use mild detergents like Ivory soap and Woolite . Never use bleach. It is also recommended that you unbutton your robe to avoid any stretching. It is very good idea to use a lingerie bag or old pillow case tied loosely on the opened end to protect your robe from pulls and snags.
Follow these simple care instructions and your silk robe will always look as fabulous as it did the day you bought it
