Velour robes have become as popular for women as they have for men. Not your traditional terry cloth , velour adds a richness to the everyday robe. Where did velour come from? " Velours " is the French word for velvet. It can be made from any of several fabrics, but is identifiable by its pile or napped surface resembling velvet. "Cotton velour", which is the type used mostly for robes, is simply cotton velvet. It is the cotton that gives the material the absorbency needed to be a good robe, as well as the durability.
