There was a time when denim vests would have thought to be only a casual piece, but with the handiwork magic of playing with lengths, and even embroidered designs, denim vests can be worn to work, to play, any day.
Some medical professionals wear the longer denim vests instead of lab coats to work. This look is just as acceptable for the medical personnel, but it will add a little charm to their wardrobe. They do this in attempt to move out of the, not so fashionable, "plain old whites" of the medical field.
Motorcyclists are often found wearing denim vests as well. Off of work, and out to play, denim is durable and tough, just what a rider needs to protect them from the hazards of the road. You will find denim vests made to target this market. Some of them have a western appeal, while other bikers prefer black denim or the classic blue denim.
Vests are made in many different denim washes, you may have heard of "stone washing". Pumice is used as an abrasive and is placed in the washer with denim. A variety of other techniques are used, as well as pumice stones such as: enzymes, synthetic ceramics and bleach.
When they first started "stone-washing" denim they used pea gravel, but it was too heavy and would just lie in the bottom of the water. They switched to pumice stones because these stones would float with the fabric and as a result create the stoned washed look.

The fashion industry and designers have been raving, more now than ever, about the explosion of denim and its growing market. Traditional is not a word they use very often when it comes to denim ... they often comment that this is an old fabric with a new flare. There will never come a time when people will not be wearing it.
