Tactical Vests – A Vest for Police Safety
Whether you're on a stakeout or military maneuver, a tactical vest will aid your performance and organize your gear. Most tactical vests are used by law enforcement and military personnel, and are specially constructed to carry bulky items and gear, like weapons, ammunition, radios and other specialized equipment.

High-tech tactical vests can also be manufactured to serve as protective gear and are fabricated from impact and puncture resistant material. Their most important function, though, is to provide safe but readily accessible storage for volatile equipment that may be needed at a moment's notice.
An exterior tactical vest - one worn outside the clothes that provides neck, shoulder and groin protection - may weigh up to 50 percent more than a concealable vest, and cost considerably more as well. An "outside" tactical vest might be more likely safety apparel for a member of the SWAT team than a field officer in the Army.
A tactical vest with that level of coverage is beneficial, but can induce heat stress if worn for a long period of time, and can also restrict the wearer's range of movement. SWAT teams en route to a site have transit time to suit up in their tactical gear, but ease of getting the vest on is critical in any event, so research that aspect and determine your specific needs before selecting an exterior vest.
Concealable, or discreet tactical vests are available in standard colors that may match a regulation uniform or suit, making it less apparent to criminals that you are a law enforcement officer. A concealable vest can be sized for wear underneath a suit coat or blazer, with interior pockets to hold equipment.
Whether your select an exterior or concealable tactical vest, you may not know how it will really work for you your specific situation until you've worn it for a period of time. Whether your vest purchase is online or through a local retailer, make sure there is a clearly stated return policy in the event you discover your vest is not the right one for the job.
