Since you are the one who will be doing the silk flower arranging , take advantage of the artistic freedom. If you have a family heirloom, such as a vase or bowl, incorporate it into your arrangement to be enjoyed every day. Also, consider the room the silk flower arrangement will be in.
Choose flowers, greenery and plants that will compliment your décor. Be sure to take full advantage of the selection of exquisite and colorful flowers such as roses and orchids. The wonderful thing about silk flowers is that you are not limited to season or geographic growing area. You can enjoy tropical beauty, like Bird's of Paradise, all year long.
Make a Silk Flower Arrangement
Fi rst, choose the container you want to use. A vase, basket or bowl are all good choices. Make sure that the container is large enough for the design you have in mind to make. Knowing where you will be putting the arrangement will give you a good idea of how large or small you want the arrangement to be. If this arrangement will be a gift, consider the receivers home and where they might place it.
Visit your local craft store or florist for the supplies you will need. Usually your container, along with florists foam, moss, tape and wire, and a sturdy pair of scissors or wire cutters, will do the trick. When choosing your flowers, make them proportionate in size to each other so that no one flower will overpower the rest. An ideal composition, that is pleasing to the eye, blends the flower colors so that they appear to flow together. For instance, you may not want orange poppies next to violet lilacs. Also, be sure to use greenery with your flowers like ivy, ferns or eucalyptus, to break up the color.
It is a good idea to bring your container with you to the store when selecting your flowers. Occasionally stop to arrange them in the container. Keep in mind that you don't want to pack them in too tightly and make your arrangement look busy.Once you have all your supplies home, lay everything out so you have a visual picture of what you have to work with. Secure your florists foam to the bottom of your container and you are ready to start.
Decide upon the height of your flowers, keeping in mind that the blooms should stand tall just above the rim of your container. Go ahead and start arranging your flowers, using your wire cutter to trim the flowers to the desired height. As you are building your arrangement, mix and match your flowers and greenery. Simply alternate the flowers until the desired visual effect is achieved. Don't worry if you are not happy with the direction the arrangement is going. You can make changes. The foam is very forgiving and will allow you to remove and replace flowers until you are happy with the design.
Now you see just how easy silk flower arranging is. You can have lovely flowers gracing your home year round with just a little bit of creativity. Just be aware that your family and friends will want you to make one of your fabulous creations for them too!
