Medical Pendant - Medical Alert Pendants

Knowing what to list on a medical pendant is important. Medical pendants contain important information about your health if an event occurs that leaves you unable to communicate with medical personnel. Without knowledge of your allergies and conditions, life saving treatments may be delayed.

Medical Alert Jewelry Save Lives

If you are in a car accident or another tragic accident, medical personnel benefit if they know your conditions, allergies and emergency contacts in advance. They look for medical alert pendants on the wrist, around the neck, on shoelaces or even belt loops or waistbands.

Allergies

Include allergies that impact your health. Do not forget to list allergies to all items including medications, prescription or non-prescription, foods and non-edible items that may be in a hospital setting. Common allergies include:

Anesthetics
Aspirin
Bees/Wasps
Contrast dyes
Latex
NSAIDs
Nuts
Penicillin
Seafood
Sulfa drugs

It is important for health officials to know these items. If you have an allergy to contrast dyes, main components in MRIs and cardiolite stress tests, optional tests must be given or your health could suffer.

Emergency Contacts

After an accident or health emergency, officials will want to call your children, neighbors, spouse or other loved ones. Having this information available enables them to inform them you have been hospitalized. If you have pets, you have piece of mind knowing they will get the care they need while you are away from home.

For emergency contacts listed on a medical pendant, try to list a close neighbor, a family member and even your doctor.

Medical Information

Hospital physicians and EMTs need to know of preexisting conditions. Conditions you should list:

Alzheimer’s
Blood clotting diseases
Diabetes
Epilepsy
Heart conditions
Rare blood type

Medical Alert Pendant

In addition, you should list medical directives on your medical pendant. These include:

Do not resuscitate orders
Living wills
Power of attorney

Because space on a medical pendant is limited, you may find it beneficial to choose the newer pendants that have USB flash drives. They hook up to the USB port on a computer and allow you to store pages of information.
