* Facial Hair Removal For A Woman. Unwanted facial hair is primarily a female concern, but facial hair removal solutions are also available to males interested in reducing or eliminating heavy beards.

* Puberty Years When Facial Hair Pops Out. Facial hair in women often first appears during puberty. The most common areas of facial hair in women are the upper lip and chin, but hair can also appear on the jaw, cheeks and neck of women.

Facial Hair Removal

Facial hair is normal because everyone, including women, has hair follicles underneath the surface of the face. Heredity determines the number, thickness and color of facial hair.

* Influence Of Hormones. In women, facial hair may become more noticeable when there is a hormonal imbalance between estrogen and androgens (male hormones), often during menopause or pregnancy. An excess of androgens also may be attributed to age or obesity (fat retains androgens).

Traditionally, the majority of women use tweezers to perform facial hair removal. If the facial hair problem is a minimal number of hairs, then tweezers are cost effective.

* Do You Want 'Temporary' or 'Permanent' Results? The options for facial hair removal range from the temporary to the permanent. The temporary options include waxing and depilatory chemicals. The permanent options include electrolysis and laser treatment (semi-permanent). Shaving as a facial hair removal method for women is a very short-lived option and not recommended.

Waxing is a method of temporarily removing unwanted facial hair involving the application of warm or cold wax to the face. The wax is allowed to dry then peeled off with the unwanted hairs attached. The resulting facial hair removal is very clean but the method can be painful and irritating to some skin types.

* Facial Hair Removal Creams. Depilatory chemicals and creams (substances that remove hair) destroy the chemical bonds in the hair shaft resulting in a gelatinous pooling of the hair which can, after the application, be wiped off.

Since the hair follicle is left in tack, the facial hair removal is only temporary. Chemical depilatories can irritate the skin if left on too long and those depilatories that are sulfide based often have an undesirable odor. There is an issue of messiness with this facial hair removal method that may or may not bother the user.

* Permanent Benefits Of Electrolysis. Electrolysis is a permanent facial hair removal procedure. It involves the use of a needle that directs an electrical current to a single hair follicle at a time. Hair does not grow back because the hair follicle is permanently destroyed. Patients with light skin or graying hair, who are not good candidates for laser hair removal, may get better results with electrolysis. Electrolysis hair removal can take up to two years to complete, depending upon the density of the facial hair involved.

* Consider Laser Treatments. Laser hair removal is an increasingly popular method for facial hair removal permanent. The laser technology works by heating up the hair follicle to a targeted temperature that retards the growth of hair shafts and thus the removal of un-desired facial hair. It is suggested that the more laser sessions undertaken, the more permanent the hair loss becomes.
