Electric Scooter Battery Charger
More and more people of all ages are relying on electric scooters for mobility. Of course the more they use their motorized scooters, the sooner their batteries run low. That makes the battery and battery charger very important accessories.
Find, Compare, and Buy a Mobility Scooter
The electric scooter battery has changed tremendously since it first came on the scene over 30 years ago. Today you can choose from many different brands and sizes. Even though there are a large assortment to choose from there are only two basic types of electric scooter battery, acid (AGM) or gel. Each has its pros and cons, which will be covered below. But when in doubt, always go with the original kind of battery that came with your scooter.
What type of electric scooter battery should I buy?
That question is somewhat complex. On one hand there are only two basic types of batteries, acid and gel. On the other hand, not all acid batteries are of equal quality, nor are all gel batteries of equal quality. Regardless of what type of battery you need, it is recommended that you purchase batteries from a trusted medical equipment company.
For safety reasons, gel technology batteries are most often recommended. Acid batteries will hold a charge slightly longer than a gel battery, but the gel battery is spill free and will not cause harm, and does not require frequent water checks.
Why can't I use a car battery?
Many people are tempted to use car batteries because they are less expensive. However, they will not hold a charge as long as the batteries intended for use in mobility scooters.
What type of charger can I use for my electric scooter battery?
There was a time when two types of chargers were used for medical mobility equipment - one specific type for acid batteries and one specific type for gel batteries. If you mistakenly charged a battery with the inappropriate charger, it could cause damage to the battery and cause it to wear out faster. Today there are still two options but they have changed. Now there is one type of charger for acid batteries and one dial mode charger for both acid and gel. The dual mode battery charger has a switch that allows you to select to charge either gel or acid batteries.
