There are millions of claims about illnesses and injuries aloe vera can benefit. There is a lot of folk wisdom that suggests aloe can be good for burns, itchiness, rashes, cuts, scrapes, and poison oak. Medical science is still exploring aloe vera's external healing ability, but aloe has not been known to cause any harm when applied to the skin, so it is deemed safe, even if some doubt its effectiveness.

Aloe vera plants do need a lot of sunlight, so it is best to keep them in a window that gets lots of sun, unless you are in an especially cold climate. They do need to be kept warm and get plenty of light, because they can die from exposure to cold.

The plant requires very little water, during the winter only one or two cups when the soil is completely dry. During the summer, the soil should be drenched from watering, also only when the soil is completely dry.

The leaves of the aloe vera plant can be broken off to apply the pulp to burns, cuts, or scratches without any harm to the plant. This is a familiar aloe vera use . For this reason, it is one of the most popular houseplants in the world.

There are also many types of aloe vera gel on the market. Like the pulp from aloe plants, they can treat burns, cuts, scrapes, and so on. Sometimes they do need to be kept refrigerated to prevent spoilage. Also, they can contain alcohol, so read the label in case you are sensitive to alcohol on your skin.

An aloe vera juice benefit is it can be used to treat constipation. Some also use its laxative features as a colon cleanser. A usual dosage is one pill a day for no more than ten days. Aloe vera can strip the body of potassium, especially after continued uses. Also, because aloe products are natural supplements, and therefore not regulated like drugs, check the label to make sure aloe is the primary active ingredient. Some aloe vera laxatives have other, harsher laxatives mixed in with the aloe.

Aloe laxative supplements can cause cramping, nausea, and diarrhea. Pregnant women should not use them because they can cause abdominal contractions.
