Wind Chimes and Feng Shui

In the ancient Chinese practice of Feng Shui, sound is one of the most significant factors concerning the flow of Chi, or "energy." Feng Shui wind chimes help by attracting lucky Chi and by distributing inactive Chi through the air, increasing the overall flow. They also slow the current of rapidly-moving Chi, which reduces agitation and anger within the household.

Find, Compare and Buy Chimes

In Feng Shui , there are rules for the placement of wind chimes inside and outside the home. These rules vary depending upon the type of wind chime.

Wind Chimes

Metal chimes:

• Metal chimes are best placed in the West, Northwest, and North of the house.

• It is best to hang metal wind chimes inside the house.

• To suppress bad luck, metal chimes with five solid rods are the best. To encourage good luck, chimes with four, six, seven, eight, or eighteen rods are the best.

Bamboo chimes:

• Work best if hung in the South, Southeast, or East of the house.

• Bamboo chimes should be hung outdoors, in the garden or around the house.

There are many more rules regarding the types and hanging of wind chimes, but these can vary from house to house. Although wind chimes are important to the practice of Feng Shui, merely hanging them will not increase luck. In fact, hanging them improperly could cause an increase in bad Chi. In order to be competent in Feng Shui, it is important to read at least one of the many books available on the subject, and perhaps even contact a consultant .
