Feng Shui Home - Design Tips

In Feng Shui, the most important thing to consider is the flow of Chi through the home. If Chi flows too fast, it causes agitation and anxiety, if it flows too slow or stagnates, it causes sluggishness and melancholy. There are eight things that effect the flow of Chi.

Find, Compare and Buy Chimes

• Light is a very important factor in the flow of Chi. Mirrors, especially in the shape of the Bagua, can be used to deflect sha, or bad, Chi. Dark spaces in the home can be brightened with soft lighting. Also, suncatchers and hanging crystals attract Chi with their beautiful refraction of light.

• Another consideration is the life within the home . Chi is drawn to life, so well-tended potted plants or a tank of goldfish can help with its flow.

• Machines are strong ways to arouse Chi, but be careful not to go overboard. Be concerned with the placement of things such as the home computer or television.

• Color influences the flow of Chi. In places that cause agitation, pale colors are best to slow the flow of Chi, where Chi seems stagnant, introduce bright, vibrant colors.

Hanging Bells

• In order to move stationary Chi, sometimes it is good to introduce moving objects, such as mobiles, windsocks, flags, or wind chimes. Running water works well for this purpose, so a small fountain may be just the thing to help with the flow of Chi.

• In places where the Chi tends to flow quickly, introduce a still object, such as a statue, figurine, or a painting of a still life. This will help slow the Chi as it circulates through the house.

• Another factor that has an effect on the flow of Chi is sound. Loud, discordant sounds tend to bring in sha Chi, so counteract this with an instrument that produces harmonious sounds, such as a gong, a wind chime, or bells.

Lines in the house can change the flow of Chi. The straighter the lines, the faster the Chi can flow along it, causing agitation. Try breaking up straight lines with hanging ornaments, fans, or tapestries. This disrupts the quick flow of the Chi, making it move less rapidly.
