Carpet Cleaning Supplies – Resolve, Dry, Capture, Woolite ...

For quick, and small, carpet clean-ups, keep products on hand like Resolve, Capture or Woolite. These cleaners are essential additions to your stash of household cleaning supplies, and are ideal for quick fixes for small spills and stains.

Before reaching for your heavy duty steam vacuum or even portable steam cleaner, look first to your cleaning supply pantry – remember that spray bottle of carpet cleaning solution you bought, just in case?

A spot cleaner like Resolve or Woolite works great on upholstery as well as carpeting. A tough spot such as grape juice or wine that has gone unnoticed for a few days can actually be treated with cleaners of this type. Just direct the spray to the spot, allow it to soak in, brush to agitate and work up a small lather, allow to dry and just vacuum away.

Dry Absorbent cleaners – For effective, light-duty cleaning without hauling out the steam vacuum use a dry absorbent cleaning product like Capture. It's a three-part, three-step system, in which you spray the area to be cleaned with a pre-conditioner, sprinkle the damp, powder absorbent over the pre-conditioned area, work it in with a rake or brush, allow to dry and vacuum up. Cleaning products of this nature are almost universally accepted by carpet manufacturers for spot cleaning, and there is little, if any, wetting of the carpet, and the powder is very gentle.

Foam cleaners
Theymay look like whipped cream when sprayed on, but this type of cleaner is very effective. Again, spray on the affected area, allow to soak in and dry, then vacuum up. Not really a spot remover, these cleaners are great for high-traffic areas. The Resolve line of carpet cleaning products includes a foam cleaner to handle larger carpeted areas.

High-concentration chemical-based cleaners
This type of cleaner can address stains from magic markers. Just soak a rag with the cleaner and blot the stain. Instructions suggest you allow the chemical to set in around 10 minutes, then blot or wipe clean. Depending on how soon you are able to treat the stain in this fashion will have an impact on its effectiveness. When using this method, be sure to use rubber gloves and keep the area well-ventilated.
Citrus-based cleaners
The ingredients in these types of cleaners make them a great solution for cleaning food stains. Remove and blot up as much of the stain as you can with a towel, then squirt on the cleaner. Wipe up the area. It may take several applications to completely remove the stain, but citrus-based cleaners are effective for recent stains that haven't been allow to set in.

There are times when it is just easier to pull a small bottle out from under the sink to first deal with a fresh carpet stain than it is to drag out the heavy-duty carpet cleaner. Keeping a variety of carpet cleaning products on hand to contend with fresh carpet spots will make big cleaning projects less of a grind in the long run.
