When Blenders First Hit The Market. The blender traces back to the 1937 Waring Miracle Mixer, renamed the Waring Blendor in 1938. Bandleader Fred Waring (you may or may not be old enough to remember Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians) financed the cooking blender development by inventor Fred Osius, then promoted it to hotel chefs as he toured and later to department stores.
More features and uses of Blenders:
Multiple Functions in One Kitchen Tool. The Magic Bullet Blender is a multipurpose tool with interchangeable parts that make it part food processor, part blender, part juicer. A hand blender or immersion blender, like the cordless Cuisinart blender, is a portable drink mixer that you dunk into a container.

Brands To Look For. Other quality products include the Kitchen Aid blender, the Oster blender (Osterizer), the Hamilton Beach blender, and the Braun blender.
Economy Models Up To Commercial Grade. Basic blenders have become low-priced commodity appliances that are cheaper to replace than to repair. However, there are some more durable options. Often the model at the top of a company's line is a stainless steel blender. While it may have the same functions as a blender with a plastic base, you can usually count on it lasting longer without damage. If you want a bar blender, the two-speed, chrome-base Waring blender (available from many online sources) is still a good choice. If you want to cook the food while you blend it, Vita-Mix is a brand to consider.
