The American Camping Association®, or "ACA," publishes an annual summer camp directory offering a comprehensive guide to ACA-accredited camps throughout the United States.
Within its covers, the summer camp directory explains the history of organized camping, and contains advice on how to find the right camp for your child, packing tips for resident campers and factors to consider before deciding on a day camp and even a chapter on helping with homesickness.
The ACA is a community of camp professionals who, for close to a century, have joined together to share knowledge and experience, and to ensure the quality of camp and youth development programs.
When camps display the ACA-accredited camp logo, they are showing they've earned a mark of distinction with the camping community. Each of the 2400-plus camps on the organization's database has demonstrated its compliance with nationally recognized health and safety standards while in operation. Whether you are searching online or paging through the book, you'll see indexes listing camps alphabetically as well as by state and by specialty.

The ACA has offices across the country set up to provide information about local camp directors, referral services, or camp fair information. Contact an ACA regional office in your area for more information, or access the camp database with this link.
Many private companies publish yearly camping directories, whether aimed at kids, adults, motorists, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts or retirees! Your local library should carry examples of these books on their reference shelves.
The internet is a valuable resource when deciding on a summer camp. Most camps today put up a website to allow instant access to information about their application process, programs and curriculum and even provide virtual tours!
A wealth of information on camping is available in directories published electronically and conventionally. Start your search early in the school year, and remember to include your prospective camper in the exploration phase!
