Overnight Camps – A Summer Overnight Camp
An overnight summer camp is the ideal environment for your child to take on new independence and self-confidence.
At an overnight summer camp, youngsters get their first exposure to what life will one day be like when they are grown up and living on their own.
While participating in an overnight camp can be a terrific experience, not every child is readily adaptable to a week, or several weeks, away from home and family.
If your child does have a special interest, consider a specialty camp like basketball or band camp where your child can improve his or her talents, and would be able to attend with a sports team or fellow band mates. These camps are great places for children to improve specific talents while also improving their life skills. Don't worry - specialty camps are not just limited to their main topic - they generally offer other facilities and activities to provide campers with well-rounded experiences.
One of the most important aspects of an overnight camp is the meal plan. Find out what type of food is served, how often children can eat and snack, what choices are available, and what portions are available. Great food can make a camp; lousy food can break a camp!

Camps that offer an overnight program should set out very clearly their policies on dispensing medications, dealing with homesickness, handling medical and emotional emergencies, discipline and enforcing bedtimes – all the issues that can arise in a single to multi-night sleep away camp.
Preparation and communication are key in preparing your child, and yourself, for an overnight camp.
