YMCA Camps – A YMCA Summer Camp
Summer, sleep-away, overnight or day – all types of YMCA camps have been in operation for more than a century, with locations and programs offered all across the country.
Through swimming or singing, computer workshops or nature hikes, YMCA camp counselors have helped children develop values, have fun, make friends, build skills and grow more self-reliant.
Many camps use a natural, outdoor setting to teach participants about the wonderful world around them, and how they can take care of it now and in the future. Some camps offer specialized programs relating to academics, arts, sports, teen adventure or leadership.
YMCA camp offerings vary by location, so contact your local organization directly for specific information. Residential camps are usually geared for children age 7 to 17; most camps are co-ed, but some are just for boys or just for girls. Lengths of stay can be as short as three days, to a week, two weeks, or up to four weeks.
For the kids, YMCA camp is a fun way to spend the summer; for parents, it's an opportunity to give children a positive, character-building experience. For mothers and dads who work outside the home, a Y camp can also be a dynamic child care environment.

Most day camp programs are planned for preschoolers through the primary grades. Nationwide, day camps for young children are the YMCA's most widely offered programs, but teen-oriented versions are quickly growing in popularity and availability. California YMCA's offer a summer surf camp in conjunction with lifeguard and swim programs.
