Addiction Treatment - When Does Abuse become Addiction?
Substance abuse treatment professionals for the most part agree that this is really a matter of degree and frequency of use. It seems appropriate to apply the label "Addiction" when use becomes so frequent and intense that the availability and absorption of the particular substance becomes the most important concern in the teenager's life. When most of the youngster's time, money and motivation are geared towards obtaining the substance and when not having it causes acute discomfort it is appropriate to designate the condition as addiction.
