Marinol - Alternative Treatment for Medical Marijuana

Marinol was created to offer an alternative for the people who have concerns about the adverse affects of smoking marijuana and is relatively safe.

Marinol is a pharmaceutical prescription pill that contains the active ingredient delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, synthetic THC, known, as dronabinol is available through prescription. Researchers are looking for other methods to administer this synthetic THC pill such as an inhaler or a patch. This drug relieves symptoms associated with chemotherapy for cancer and also assists patients with AIDS to eat when they have a loss of appetite.

Marinol is administered in round, soft gelatin capsules. Different sized dosages are available, 2.5mg, 5mg, and 10mg of dronabinol. All of the inactive ingredients contained in a 2.5mg capsule are gelatin, titanium dioxide, glycerin, and sesame oil. All of the inactive ingredients contained in a 5mg capsule are glycerin, gelatin, titanium dioxide, sesame oil, iron oxide red, and iron oxide black. All of the inactive ingredients in a 10mg capsule are titanium dioxide, glycerin, gelatin, sesame oil, iron oxide red, and iron oxide yellow.

Smoked cannabis contains 400 different chemicals, which is most of the same hazardous chemicals associated with tobacco smoke. The Food and Drug Administration known as the FDA studied and approved Marinol. The FDA has approved no medications that are smoked. Any drug that is to be marketed must pass a series of scientific test established by the 1906 Pure Food and Drug Act. Unsafe, dangerous, and ineffective drugs are to be kept off the market thanks to this act and ensure that we have safe and therapeutic drugs that are supported by clinical evidence.

There are some side effects generated by Marinol, which include anxiety, nervousness, confusion, paranoid reaction, palpitations, dizziness, euphoria, depersonalization, somnolence, and abnormal thinking. These side effects only happen in 3 to 10 percent of the people who take Marinol. Rare side affects that happen in 0.3 to 1 percent of the people who take Marinol include conjunctivitis, hypotension, diarrhea, myalgias, depression, nightmares, speech difficulties, tinnutus, flushing, and vision difficulties.

Addiction is very uncommon when you take Marinol but psychological and physiological dependence have been found to happen in healthy patients receiving dronabinol. That is why it is controlled under the Controlled Substances Act and is administered by a physician in a dose over a prolonged period of time.
