Medical Marijuana - California's Laws and Information
California was the first state to allow marijuana to be used medicinally for certain illnesses and conditions. In order to possess, cultivate, and use marijuana without facing criminal penalties in this state you need to see a doctor and acquire a medical card. You can get the cannabis at local cannabis clubs in the area you live.
California first proposed proposition 215 also known as prop 215 in 1996 to allow patients that are recommended by a doctor to possess and use marijuana medicinally. In 2003 California passed the Senate Bill 420 that allows patients to cultivate their own marijuana. This bill was passed by 54% of its voters. There is no actual state regulation on how much cannabis you are allowed to possess, it varies from county to county. In Sonoma County you are allowed up to 99 plants per person and 3 pounds of dried pot. In the neighboring county of Marin you are allowed up to 6 plants and a half-pound of dried pot.
As of March 1 st 2007 in order to acquire a medical marijuana card, known as Medi-Cal card, you must pay a fee of $80.50. The state government distributes these cards to doctors who in turn give them to patients who need marijuana medicinally. This card gives you permission in the state of California only to possess, use, and cultivate marijuana for personal use and makes it so no law enforcement in the state can arrest you for using, possessing, or cultivating.
California is the only state that has dispensaries known as cannabis clubs. These dispensaries have many different things to offer. The cannabis clubs offer different strands of pot used for different illnesses. They also contain clones and seeds for personal growing as well as foods with THC extracted from the leaf and put into butter. They also offer smoking utensils such as vaporizers, bongs, bubblers, pipes, chillums, and rolling papers. Scales are also available for the proper weight distribution. These dispensaries really help people out who do not know where get these products elsewhere.
