Nanny Jobs - How to Find a Nanny Job
Are you a nanny looking for the perfect job? Finding the right job can be tricky if you don't know the secrets.
How you go about finding a nanny job could have a major impact on your success. The search for a family, that is the perfect fit for you, requires effort. But you will soon find that the effort you put into your search is equal to the satisfaction you receive from the nanny job you secure.
If you have never looked for a nanny job, or have not had to look in quite some time, you have a decision to make. You will need to decide whether you want to manage your nanny job hunt yourself or work with a professional agency. Either way can lead you to the right nanny job for you. However, there are pros and cons to both. Let's take a look at each.
Finding a nanny job on your own can be less cost effective because you will have to incur the cost of local newspaper ads for the geographic areas you are targeting. You will also be responsible for back ground checks on prospective families and for contacting their references. You will be on your own for negotiations and contract development. None of this work is hard to do. It will simply cost you some money, is time consuming and requires diligence. On the other hand, if you go with an agency, most if not all of the work is done for you by the agency. What's in it for them? They are paid by the families. They pay an agency fee for the agency to do the appropriate screening on you and to help them find the perfect nanny. For a nanny, it is a win-win situation. Most full service agencies will provide the nanny with:
- Access to their extensive database of pre-screened families
- Visa sponsorship
- Travel
- Compensation coaching and contract development. Some agencies will actually do the salary negotiating for the nanny and draw up the contract.
- Ongoing counseling and support, and networking opportunities, often throughout your tenure with your family
Most nanny agencies today are web based or at least have their database of families available to you on the Internet. These databases allow you to post your resume and photo on their website for prospective families to review. They also allow you to search their database of families by a profile you create yourself. This will provide you with a list of families that fit your specific preferences. This method of searching affords you a large selection of families from which to choose from.
Fees for nanny agencies can often be high for the families looking for a nanny. From a nanny's perspective, this is a good thing. It says that the family is committed enough to put their money where their nanny search is. Nannies can assume, for the most part, that these families are serious about their nanny hunt.
