Nanny Agency vs. Internet Nanny
What is the difference between a nanny agency and an Internet nanny agency? There is more of a difference than you think. You may be surprised.
Nanny agency vs. Internet nanny
Finding a nanny on the Internet has its risks. The most important thing to keep in mind is that anyone, yes anyone, can list herself as a qualified nanny. Most reputable Internet nanny agencies do require a resume and references. But that is usually the most you can expect. No background check is done, no criminal records checks are done and no psychological testing is done.
All a prospective nanny need do is:
- Pay the fee to the Internet nanny site
- Complete an on-line questionnaire
Nanny agencies on the other hand do an extensive check of the prospective nanny before they will promote her to their clients. A nanny agency candidate must:
- Complete an application
- Provide a work history in childcare with references
- Have an in person meeting with an agency coordinator
- Provide proof of identity
- Provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States
- Provide drivers license
- Complete agency training and orientation
- Have a background check
- Complete a first aid and child CPR course
Chances are, if you are in need of a nanny, you are a busy working parent with little, if any, spare time. Most parents who are in need of a nanny don't have the time to complete the comprehensive steps that a nanny agency will. But the fact is that these steps are critically important to the safety and wellbeing of the children being cared for.
If you have the funds, a professional nanny agency is the best alternative by far. Child care is not the place to be saving money. On the other hand, if you just can't afford a nanny agency, then be diligent. Make sure that you perform the steps that an agency would. Every parent's goal is the same; to find the right nanny who will be loving and nurturing to their children, while at the same time responsible and mature. The bottom line is that you will get out of your nanny search just what you put into it. Good luck!
