Considered one of the oldest games in the world, field hockey is currently played at schools all over the United States. As the sport continues to grow, many school and club teams find that they're under-funded or simply unable to provide team athletes with the necessary resources and experienced coaching staff. That's where a field hockey camp can prove beneficial.
Field hockey camps are operated in a daytime format and in an overnight setting. Depending on the age and experience level of your camper, one type may be better than the other.
Campers will leave a summer field hockey program with improved individual skills - from ball handling to shooting to defending. Participants will also gain a greater understanding of team play, learning the concepts to help make their squad better.
And don't forget the fun. Field hockey camps should give young athletes the opportunity to work hard and improve in a fun, positive atmosphere.
Find a field hockey camp to suit your child's age and abilities through online research or a summer camp directory, such as the one published by the American Camping Association. It contains a listing of all ACA-accredited sports camps, including several specializing in field hockey.
