Do you have to be a certain skill level to attend camp?
A skateboarding camp will offer sessions for all ability levels – beginner to advanced. Campers may be evaluated when they first arrive, and then teamed up with others in the same skill bracket. This will allow campers in the same group to learn and practice similar skills.
Who are the instructors?
Look for a camp that is taught by visiting pros and experienced amateurs, skilled teachers who are used to working with kids. Injuries are a common occurrence at skateboarding camp – make sure there are certified medical personnel on site to deal with physical emergencies of all kinds.
What equipment must be brought to camp?
Certainly if your child has his or her own skateboard, helmet, padding – pack them! However, many camps will also sell equipment, and your son or daughter may opt to replace their existing equipment, or make their first choice on a board under the guidance of fellow skaters and instructors. Make sure you know the camp requirements for equipment before sending your child off and send him or her off with a full set of whatever's needed, just in case they don't find what they want or need at camp.
Is there anything else to do besides skate or ride?
Skateboarding tricks and technique will be the primary focus of a day camp, but if it is a sleep away camp, plan on your child having an array of other activities to enhance their experience. Horseback riding, arts and crafts, photography, ropes courses, swimming, and more, may be offered as free time activities at your kid's skateboard program.
How old do you have to be to attend camp?
Most skateboarding camps offer instruction for boys and girls of all abilities between the ages of 7 and 18. But who yearn to learn a new sport – take heart - some camp programs even schedule a session for the post-18 adult.
Skateboarding builds athleticism, self-confidence and social skills in a safe, structured environment. Nurture your child's passion for sport with time at a skateboarding camp.
