Here are some guidelines to make the most of your time at a summer wrestling camp:
Practice new moves repeatedly, while the instructor is available to observe, assist and correct your form. Whether simple or complex, master the details and strategies in developing new moves in the presence of the experts.
Absorb training tips dispensed by the staff. Wrestling is more than moves and stances – it is the mental training that may be the difference between winning and losing a game. Benefit from the experiences shared by your instructors and counselors.
While at camp, think back to last season ... where do feel you need improvement? Where did you feel you excelled? Wrestling camp is a supportive environment to think through last year's disappointments and figure out how to overcome potential obstacles in the upcoming season. At camp you'll have the opportunity to work on specific areas that need attention and improvement. Express to the staff that you have given thought to your personal goals and what you want to work on.
Bring a pencil and paper to class – take notes and write down questions that you can bring up later when appropriate. Keep track of comments or inspirational messages and record names, email addresses to allow for future conversations after camp.
Meet new people and make friends. Wrestling is a close-knit community and friendships formed at camp can last a lifetime.
