Minox binoculars and spotting scopes

Minox binoculars include roof prism models up to 12x52, but miniaturization is the company's specialty, with numerous compact roof prism models. (Although they no longer offer their classic 6x20 Porro prism binoculars, dealers may still have some in stock.)

You've got to hand it to the company that invented the spy camera for coming up with binoculars that are perfect for mountain climbers: 8x24 binoculars with built in watch, stopwatch, thermometer, and altimeter, weighing 10.5ounces, and 1.7 x 2.7 x 4.4 inches.

And if that's too large for you (gotta travel light when the villain is chasing you across the Alps, right?), they offer a 6x monocular with the same digital instruments at 3.1 ounces and 1 x 1.3 x 3.2 inches-smaller and lighter than a modern cell phone. C'mon guys. You couldn't fit a compass and camera in there, too? You just have to try harder next time.

Minox Binoculars

In addition to binoculars and small monoculars, Minox offers a few small (62 mm) spotting scopes, with magnifications up to 45x, and a couple of miniature night vision scopes at 2x and 2.5x.

Minox binoculars prices range from under $200 to around $1,000. The Minox web site does not offer a dealer directory.

Minox was merged with Leica for a few years before breaking off as a separate company again, although there are still some ownership ties. You may run across older products that refer to both brands.
