Steiner binoculars are serious instruments for professionals, with series specially designed for particular environments. Coatings are tuned to increase visibility based on the dominant wavelengths encountered in hunting situations, marine applications, low–light conditions, and so forth.

Steiner binoculars are available in compact lightweight sizes as small as 8x22, but these are not opera glasses. On the other end of the scale, astronomy binoculars are 25x80. Prices range from about $100 to over $1,300.
