Range Of Magnification. Many gun scopes provide a 1x (unmagnified) view, which is appropriate for shooting at 50 yards, although some offer higher magnifications. All have either a built-in target illuminator (a projected red dot ) or a conventional reticle.
What The "Red Spot" Means. The size of the red dot at the target, on both gun scopes and riflescopes is specified in minutes of arc (MOA); it is generally much smaller than the accuracy of even the best marksman. One MOA is approximately one inch at 100 yards; scopes with 0.125 to 0.25 MOA are common.
Key Performance Brands. Gun scopes are offered by many of the same manufacturers that offer riflescopes, including ATN, Barska, BSA, Burris, Bushnell, Leupold, Nikon, and Tasco, among others.
