High Powered Vision And Shaking. Brace yourself. When you look through high–powered binoculars (anything over 8x, actually), holding them steady so you can see what you're focusing on is a challenge.

Supplemental Batteries Supply The Juice. Most image stabilized binoculars, such as those marketed by Burris, Canon, Fujinon, and Nikon, require batteries to power the optical or electronic system that holds the image steady. Zeiss uses a technology that eliminates the need for batteries.

Alternative - Rigid Mount Instruments. The alternative to image stabilized binoculars is using a rigid mount such as a tripod. In some environments, though, you really want to be able to scan freely and then lock in on a target. And sometimes carrying a tripod is one inconvenience too many.
