Governments Are The Customers. Governments around the world buy binoculars for their troops. These range from ultra-lightweight, compact field glasses to giant, image stabilized, gunwale-mounted marine binoculars to fourth-generation night vision binoculars.

Higher Prices. What all these military binoculars have in common is that they meet demanding military specifications - and that raises the price. Remember, too, that some instruments the military buys are not available to you as a consumer.

Technical Stuff To Know About. Military binoculars and those sold for law enforcement use often have a reticle to enable approximate range finding. Of course laser rangefinder scopes are also available for this purpose.

Custom Supply Chains. Geopolitics being what it is, the making of military binoculars has arisen in more than one country (military buyers like to be able to purchase from allies if they can't purchase domestically).
