SOG Knife has set the standard for functional, rugged knives since it was founded. Inspired by the Bowie knife developed and used by the Studies and Observation Group during the Vietnam War, SOG Knife has been experimenting with designs that are completely revolutionary, yet functional and durable.

While some knife companies hire outside designers or collaborate with knifesmiths, SOG Specialty Knife has always relied on the vision of cofounder and head designer Spencer Frazier, who has had extensive experience in many engineering and artistic fields, including toy design, modern art, and, perhaps most importantly, in the research and development department of the military's top secret Black Projects division.

It was while working for the military that Frazier became interested in tactical knives, in particular the Bowie knife, the original SOG knife. Since then, Frazier has designed many military knives, including the fixed blade knife SOG Desert Dagger, Navy knife SEAL SOG, and the SOG Tech Bowie, based on the knife that first inspired Frazier.

SOG has also introduced some of the most unique knife mechanisms around, including the SOG Revolution series, which have a two bladed knife that revolves on a pivot and locks into place, so you can switch between two different kinds of blades with ease.

They also have introduced the AutoClip, an adjustable belt clip found on many of their knives, the Arc-Lock, one of the strongest locking mechanisms found on any folding knife, and the Compound Leverage system on their multitools, which allows for a more powerful grip from the pliers with less pressure than you would need for average multitools.
