Berkley Fishing Rods and Poles

Berkley fishing rods were the brainchild of teenager Berkley Bedell. At the age of 16, he used some of his paper route income to create and sell hand-tied flies to area businesses. He saved money on supplies by using hair from his pet dog and feathers from his family's chicken coop. The business proved to be successful and by the time he graduated high school, he'd had to hire girls to help him out. His operation soon outgrew his family's basement, so he rented the space above the neighborhood grocery store.

Berkley Bedell attended college and then the Army. When he'd finished his continuing education, he formed Berkley and Company. His next success came from creating nylon-coated wire for fishing poles and then nylon fishing line. The nylon fishing line from DuPont led to his patented Trilene. He asked area fishing shops to ask fishermen to test out Trilene and rave reviews helped launch his new product successfully. In the 1960s, Berkley and Company started building fishing rods and since then they've remained one of the most popular fishing equipment manufacturers on the market.

Popular Berkley Fishing Rods

Berkley's Glowstik spinning and casting fishing poles include a built-in LED light. The LED light glows for hours per bulb so that you always know where your pole tip is during night fishing expeditions. Because fish like catfish and walleyes eat at night, the LED light on Berkley fishing rods helps light the way for nighttime angling.

The Tactix Berkley fishing rods offer graphite, carbon fiber pole that withstands the weight of heavier fish with ease. While the lightweight pole allows you to feel every strike, the durability stands up to fighters without danger of broken fishing poles.
