Penn Fishing Rods and Reels Company History

Penn is a division of Pure Fishing, Inc. Founded in the 1930s, Penn Fishing Reels started out manufacturing quality fishing reels and expanded over the years. Their fishing reels gained success when author Zane Gray set a world record after reeling in a 1,040 pound marlin.

In 1948, the founder of Penn passed away. His wife opted to take control of the company, surprising many with her leadership and management skills. Because she'd landed a 613 pound tuna, her knowledge of fishing helped her guide the company to new levels.

By the early 1970s, Penn had close to 100 fishing reels available. This number would increase to 150 by the end of the decade. In 1979, a man landed a 1,080 Mako shark sparking the idea for Peter Benchley's novel Jaws.

Today, Penn produces fishing rods and reels, many of their offerings have been used to catch record breaking fish. They continue to be a leader among fishing pole manufacturers. With Penn, you get a quality rod and reel.

Penn Fishing Rods for Saltwater

Penn sells many fishing rod and reel combos for saltwater applications. The Tuna Stick is a Superglass rod that provides remarkable strength, standing up to even the largest tuna. Penn Power Stick fishing rod and reel units are designed for saltwater fishing. The tough tip withstands plenty of bending while reeling in large fish.

Penn Senator

The Penn Senator fishing rod is a rugged fishing pole that is both affordable and easy to use. The Penn fishing rods use chrome line guides and have been one of the company's biggest seller for decades.

Ugly Stik Penn Fishing Rods

Penn's Ugly Stik is a durable fishing rod reel combo that is great for catching grouper or red snapper. There is a separate model for west coast fishermen that easily handle sturgeon, halibut and dolphin.
