Find, Compare, and Buy Ski Equipment - View All Ski Links

There are special ski vacation packages for ski areas all around the world. You can go online to find mountain descriptions, call for skiing vacation information or request brochures. North America and Europe are ski destinations of choice for many skiers - for both beginning and advanced skiers. You can also find snow skiing in New Zealand (Mt. Hutt is good place for intermediate skiers) and Norway (Lillehammer was the site of the 1994 Winter Olympics).

Ski Equipment Based On Color Code Degree of Difficulty

Ski Equipment - Skiing
When you cross international borders with different languages it can be hard to determine the technical rating of a mountain section or back country area. Your ski and ski binding needs for double black diamond extreme pitch conditions should be set at the base of the mountain.

While there is a color coding system for ski trails, the colors vary from country to country. In the United States and Canada a green circle stands for very easy and easy, a blue square for more difficult and a black diamond for most difficult. On the other hand, colors in France, Italy and Scandinavia use green, blue, red and black for very easy to most difficult.

You can find a mountain for your ski trip that is designed for beginners or advanced snow skiing or some combination of steep trails and gentle slopes.

Heli Ski Areas

In the 1970s British Columbia winter sport entrepreneurs launched heli ski area access for that special breed of rich and talented alpine skiers who seek ungroomed open expanses of deep powder combined with huge vertical descents. To achieve this rare combination, heli ski area operators commandeered helicopters to "drop" hard core alpine skiers and snowboarders into these remote mountain top ski areas.

Heli ski area equipment needs are unique. You'll generally need a medium to wide "fat" ski with a pronounced side cut in order to obtain the control necessary for navigating potentially waist deep powder conditions.

Cross Country ski Areas

Most major ski resorts have designated and partially groomed cross country ski areas. You'll get silent forests, many mile wood land tracks, and potentially huge cardio-vascular conditioning as you glide or skate atop waxless cross country ski. Look to the ski resort to find a ski rental shop to provide you with precisely the level of equipment that you'll need for the ski area that you select.
